Cast of Characters: Lost & Found — Encounters with the Living God by Max Lucado
The Bible is filled with names you may have first heard in a Sunday school class—ordinary men and women who rarely take center stage in sermons or history. They weren’t the famous heroes at the foot of the cross or the figures immortalized in stained glass. Instead, they were everyday people who wrestled with doubt, failure, and sin—yet found themselves transformed by an encounter with the living God.
In Cast of Characters: Lost & Found, Max Lucado invites you to step into the lives of more than twenty such individuals. Through their struggles and triumphs, you’ll see that God delights in using the overlooked and the imperfect, taking the common and making it extraordinary. Their stories are reminders that we, too, are never alone in our weakness or wandering, because God meets us right where we are.
Featuring uplifting selections from the beloved writings of bestselling author Max Lucado, this companion to Cast of Characters offers fresh encouragement drawn from a new circle of biblical figures. It’s an inspiring journey through Scripture that will help you see how encounters with God not only reshape lives in the past—but continue to change hearts today.

About the Author
Max Lucado is a pastor, speaker, and best-selling author often described as “America’s Pastor.” Serving Oak Hills Church in San Antonio, Texas, his writing and preaching focus on sharing God’s love with those who are hurting, lonely, guilty, or discouraged. Known for his blend of storytelling, humor, and pastoral care, Lucado’s works aim to provide encouragement that lasts beyond Sunday sermons.
Since his first book On the Anvil (1985), Lucado has published over 46 trade books, selling more than 150 million copies in 50+ languages. His books frequently appear on bestseller lists and have influenced Bible studies, devotionals, music, greeting cards, and more. In 2021, he received the ECPA Pinnacle Award for his lasting impact on Christian publishing.
Lucado’s personal journey began in Andrews, Texas, where he grew up in a working-class family. After a rebellious youth, he turned to faith and attended Abilene Christian University. Early ministry work in Miami introduced him to both preaching and writing, and it was there he met his wife, Denalyn. Together, they later served in Brazil as church planters before settling in San Antonio.
Today, Max and Denalyn enjoy life with their three grown daughters, their husbands, and four grandchildren, while Lucado continues to inspire through his writing and ministry.
