In "Beliefs and Holy Places," he reveals some of the supernaturally sanctioned relationships that tie people to places within that region, describing the cultural and religious meanings of locations and showing how bonds between people and places have in turn created relationships between places, a spiritual geography undetectable on physical maps. This book is about a region, some of the peoples who live in that region, and traditional relationships that tie people to places within that region. The region is the Pimeria Alto, or central Arizona--Sonora Borderlines. Although this is not a history book, it deals with living cultural traditions that exist alongside the mainstream American culture with which most of us are most familiar.
