Title
Please Don't Paint Our Planet Pink!: A Story for Children and their Adults - Paperback
by Laurel Thompson (Illustrator), Gregg Kleiner (Author)
What might happen if we could SEE carbon dioxide in the atmosphere? What if CO2 were, say, pink? In this engaging, funny, and highly timely book for children (and their adults!), a young boy whose parents named him Wilbur "in honor of that pig in Charlotte's Web" discovers the power of the human imagination and how he can tap that power to see a shade of pink so astonishing it just might save the Planet. With help from his geeky "dorkasaurus" Dad and a pair of bright green goggles, young Will learns all about carbon and caring, carpooling and climate change, and how learning to see "this particular pink" will help all of us keep our Planet cool.
Author Biography
AUTHOR: One of five siblings, GREGG KLEINER grew up in rural Oregon splashing in creeks and climbing trees, milking goats and playing the French Horn. At age 16, he spent a year as an AFS exchange student in the mountains of northern Thailand, where he lived for a month at a Buddhist monastery under the tutelage of an aged monk. Although he didn't wear a lot of pink as a boy, the color has grown on him, and he hopes we might all wake up tomorrow and see the particular shade of pink featured in this book - his first for children (and their adults). His novel for adults, "Where River Turns to Sky," was a finalist for both the Paterson Fiction Prize and the Oregon Book Award, and was optioned for a feature film by Fox Searchlight. ILLUSTRATOR: As a visual thinker, it's no wonder that LAUREL THOMPSON became an artist. She, too, grew up in Oregon, exploring her fascination with art, dance, and nature. This is Laurel's first fully illustrated book, and she feels honored to be helping bring such an important story to life. Whether you think in pictures or not, Laurel hopes that you, too, will see the particular shade of pink this book calls attention to.
