KATZ is senior fellow in the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University and past president of the American Council of Learned Societies. EDWARD L. QUEEN II is director of the Religion and Philanthropy Project at the Indiana University Center on Philanthropy.
