Are we living in the end times? If so, what does that really mean for us today?
For many, the topic stirs up more fear than faith, more confusion than clarity. But bestselling author Max Lucado reminds us that God’s plan for the future is not meant to intimidate—it’s meant to inspire hope. “The future is not frightening if you know the future,” Max writes. “And you can know the future when you know the One who holds it.”
In What Happens Next, Lucado serves as a trusted guide, helping readers navigate what Scripture teaches about heaven’s timeline with optimism and clarity. Instead of sensational predictions or fearful speculation, Max offers a grounded, faith-filled perspective that encourages preparation without panic.
Through a well-researched overview, Max explores four foundational truths:
We were created to reign with Christ.
God has made—and will always keep—His promises.
Heaven unfolds on a divinely ordered timeline.
A golden era, the millennium, awaits God’s children.
Along the way, you’ll travel through history’s prophetic milestones, including the rapture, the seven years of tribulation, the millennial reign of Christ, and the eternal glory of heaven.
Whether you’re eager for answers, cautiously curious, or hesitant about what all of this means, you’ll find encouragement, clarity, and above all, hope. In his signature style—gentle, pastoral, and deeply biblical—Max Lucado reminds us of the central truth that steadies every heart: It’s all about hope. It’s all about Him.

About the Author
Max Lucado is a pastor, speaker, and best-selling author often described as “America’s Pastor.” Serving Oak Hills Church in San Antonio, Texas, his writing and preaching focus on sharing God’s love with those who are hurting, lonely, guilty, or discouraged. Known for his blend of storytelling, humor, and pastoral care, Lucado’s works aim to provide encouragement that lasts beyond Sunday sermons.
Since his first book On the Anvil (1985), Lucado has published over 46 trade books, selling more than 150 million copies in 50+ languages. His books frequently appear on bestseller lists and have influenced Bible studies, devotionals, music, greeting cards, and more. In 2021, he received the ECPA Pinnacle Award for his lasting impact on Christian publishing.
Lucado’s personal journey began in Andrews, Texas, where he grew up in a working-class family. After a rebellious youth, he turned to faith and attended Abilene Christian University. Early ministry work in Miami introduced him to both preaching and writing, and it was there he met his wife, Denalyn. Together, they later served in Brazil as church planters before settling in San Antonio.
Today, Max and Denalyn enjoy life with their three grown daughters, their husbands, and four grandchildren, while Lucado continues to inspire through his writing and ministry.
